The participation costs

The annual SuCat Master participation costs amounts to:

  • € 9 000 /year for Partner Country students

  • € 4 500 /year for Programme Country student

Although the tuitions fees seem expensive but in fact they are affordable in comparison with other countries.

  • Language and culture courses at each HEI (Higher Education Institutes) integrated in the curriculum
  • Access to library and laboratories
  • Student management, services and activities
  • Support in visa application procedures, etc.
  • Health, liability, accident and assistance insurance (see ‘student life‘ tab)
  • The Joint Graduation Ceremony
  • All other academic and administrative fees (e.g. degree issuing from the two partner Universities attended, access fee, recognition fees, etc.)
  • Visa costs
  • Travel costs
  • Some individual module‐related costs (e.g. certain books and materials, etc.)
  • Living expenses
  • For France only : a mandatory fee is to be paid upon registration at the University of Poitiers called CVEC, no matter if you do or do not have a scholarship. As of 2025, the CVEC was of 105€

Tuition waivers opportunities

With the renewal of the project, the EMJMD SuCat consortium is considering offering tuition waivers to help the most outstanding non-scholarship students to join the program, despite the cost of tuition.

Please note that the consortium cannot confirm in advance how many waivers will be granted or the exact amount of each waiver. These details will be announced with the selection results.

Finally, the consortium cannot guarantee that all selected students will receive a tuition waiver. The allocation of waivers will depend on several factors, including:

  • the total number of selected students,
  • their academic excellence, and
  • their ranking in the selection process.

Living costs during the program

We have estimated an overall monthly budget to live in each city. As of 2025, please find below our living costs estimations  :

🇪🇸 Tarragona : The living cost in Tarragona is about 800 € per month

🇵🇹 Aveiro : If you manage to live in a student dorm on campus and you eat at the students’ restaurant, the living costs should be around 600 €. If you live outside of a student dorm and you eat outside the students’ restaurant, the living costs should be around 800 – 900  € per month.

🇮🇹 Padova : The living cost in Tarragona is about 850 € per month. More information can be found HERE

🇫🇷 Poitiers : The living cost in Poitiers is about 800 – 900 € per month

EMJMD Scholarships

Two different types of EMJMD scholarships are awarded :

  • Scholarships for Program Country students
  • Scholarships for Partner Country students (see below the exception for 12-months residency rule) which include some scholarships for students coming from targeted region of the world

Students who are awarded an EMJMD scholarship will benefit from the following financial support:

The place of residence should be verified on the basis of the provision of the documents below:

  • a residence certificate issued in accordance with the candidate’s municipality normal registration rules, OR;
  • a certificate from the candidate’s place of work, study or training issued by the employer or institution in question

Both documents must have been issued within 12 months before the submission deadline of applying for an EMJMD student scholarship, i.e. the consortium’s official deadline for student application.

 12-months residency rule: Applicants with Partner Country citizenship who have carried out their main activity (studies, training or work) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in any Program Country are considered Program Country applicants for participation costs.

The funds corresponding to “Contribution to SuCat participation costs” are directly collected by the SuCat Consortium and are not transferred to scholarship holders.

Contribution to special needs

The EMJMD SuCat will receive 120 000€ of contribution for special needs. This contribution will be used for enrolled students (with or without scholarship) with disabilities (e.g. long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments), such as those related to the acquisition of special items or services (e.g. assistance by third persons, adaptation of work environment, additional travel/transportation costs).

The support to cover such individual needs of enrolled students, will take the form of the following special needs unit costs:

  • (d) EUR 9 500
  • (e) EUR 13 000
  • (f) EUR 18 500
  • (g) EUR 27 500
  • (h) EUR 35 500

Calculation of the unit cost contribution per student: Enrolled students will declare what type of items/services are needed and their cost. The applicable unit cost will be identified as the rate corresponding to or immediately lower than the estimated expenses. This unit cost is a contribution, and is not intended to fully cover the actual costs.

NB: costs below the lowest rate (i.e. less than EUR 3 000) will not be eligible for additional support.

Other benefits and fianancial considerations

Apart from scholarships given by the EMJMD SuCat, other financial aspects are to be considered

In France  🇫🇷 :

  • Internship benefits: In France, internships of more than 2 months are paid. Currently, the monthly allowance for an internship is around 600€
  • Caisse d’allocation familiale (CAF): The French social benefit system (CAF) can give benefits to students living and studying in France. This benefit is a partial rent refund and the amount depends on the price of your accommodation, your financial means and your status. For students, the price range is between 50€ to 100€
  • Campus France: Campus France is a French national agency in charge of the promotion of French higher education abroad. Scholarships are available for a wide range of nationalities and field of study.

In Spain 🇪🇸

Please bear in mind that this scholarship is not guaranteed and students need to go throught a merit-based selection.

In Portugal 🇵🇹

  • Top-performing international master’s students at UAveiro may be awarded a merit scholarship that covers tuition fees.
