This spring semester, our students from the 2024-2026 cohort are gaining practical catalysis experience at various locations across Europe. We’re pleased to present their diverse profiles and internship topics:

“My name is Ramón, and I’m from Oaxaca México. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Nanotechnology and Molecular Engineering, and during my studies I had the chance of doing some research internships mainly with environmental remediation and energy storage scopes […]. The world of catalysis was introduced to me as a dynamic field that bridges chemistry, engineering, and materials science. That’s how I pursued to be accepted in the SuCat master program, getting a great chance to keep learning about catalysis in various fields and more importantly a way of practically apply that knowledge. […] Currently I am in my second semester, conducting my internship at the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) and the Institut Català d’Investigació Química (ICIQ) in Tarragona, Spain. In this internship I’m contributing to a project focused on the reduction of CO2 by artificial photosynthesis, aiming to achieve a conversion similar to natural photosynthesis. […] After this internship, I will be ready to undergo the next semester specializing in heterogeneous catalysis back in the Université de Poitiers in France. “ See the full profile on linkedin HERE |

Dayana Galeas 🇪🇨🇪🇺Current internship in : University of Graz 🇦🇹 |
“Hello! I’m Daya 👩🔬 I earned my B.Sc. in Chemistry from Yachay Tech University in Ecuador. During my thesis, I explored how membrane-enhanced peptide synthesis could be scaled up using globular polymer supports—a fun project where I engaged in green chemistry, process optimization, and efficiency […]. Now, as part of the SuCat program, I’m doing my M.Sc. internship at the University of Graz in Austria. My current project focuses on achieving challenging macrocyclizations via biocatalysis to produce lactones with unusual ring sizes. Working with highly selective enzymes enables transformations that would be incredibly difficult through conventional synthetic chemistry. I am now up for the next challenge at Universitat Rovira i Virgili, where an exciting year of homogeneous catalysis awaits. SuCat has taught me that there’s nothing we can’t learn—computer geeks can be good in the lab and keep enzymes alive. I am glad to be part of a program that aligns with my background while still allowing me to explore my interests across its different specializations.” See the full profile on linkedin HERE |
Islam Zahran 🇪🇬🇪🇺Current internship in : Institut de recherches sur la catalyse et l’environnement (IRCE Lyon) 🇫🇷

“Hello everyone! My name is Islam Zahran, and I’m thrilled to share my journey through science—a path that began with curiosity and led me to where I am today. I was born and raised in the historic streets of Cairo, Egypt, into a family of chemists. Surrounded by flasks and formulas, it’s no surprise I followed in their footsteps, but my true compass has always been passion. […]. […] My drive to a more sustainable world is what led me to SuCat, the only master program that dives into all three dimensions of catalysis. How extraordinary is that? After completing my first semester at the University of Poitiers, I’m now doing an internship at the Institut de recherches sur la catalyse et l’environnement (IRCE Lyon), where I’m doing a project on “Designing Metal Single-Atom Catalysts on Carbon Supports for Suzuki Cross-Coupling Reactions”. Yes, you heard that right, harnessing the power of individual atoms to drive catalysis! The rewards are endless […] This fall, I’ll head to Aveiro, Portugal, for my third semester, where I’ll delve into enzyme catalysis, aiming to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in sustainable chemistry. None of this would be possible without the unwavering guidance and encouragement from the SuCat coordinators, who’ve transformed this journey into a global adventure of discovery.” See the full profile on linkedin HERE |
